CHIEF EXECUTIVE'S MESSAGE

You may as a parent/ student/ stake-holder contemplate as to how educational atmosphere is different at IIS and what is “international” about it?

As the CEO of IIS, I would like to pitch in a pragmatic view of what we offer at IIS!

We at IIS, strive in building a positive school culture encompassing the physical and emotional safety for both students and staff which in turn focuses on nurturing their creative and intellectual pursuits.

Every effort is focused on fostering the school culture so that every stake-holder associated with the school contributes their share to strengthen and evolve it into a deep-rooted and unique one.

Education is not merely for seeking knowledge. It must prepare the learner with the requisite skills for the life in the world and also for the life much beyond its scope and purview.

In a nostalgic ecstasy let’s try to seek answer for a question.

“How many of us remember and apply what we have studied in our practical day to day life”?

Well…for most of us the riposte may be a big “NO”!

Have we ever reasoned out why it’s so?

It’s because we believe in spoon-feeding the knowledge/information to the young minds.

“Spoon feeding, on the long run teaches nothing but the shape of the spoon” says Linda Randall Wisdom

“Give a man a fish and you feed him one day, teach him how to catch fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”

“Give a man a fish and you feed him one day, teach him how to catch fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”

We at IIS believe in providing such a skill-based education where we believe that, if we teach a skill, we enable the student for a lifetime because Knowledge is largely forgotten after the exams but skills remain with us.

At IIS, every detail is looked into while framing the curriculum for the primary classes so as to recognize and nurture creativity, problem-solving skills and effective and strong communication skills.

Rote learning is weeded out and Project/ Activity based Teaching Learning methodologies are practiced to encourage originality over memorizing.

The system is geared to create creative entrepreneurs, innovators, artists, scientists, thinkers and writers who possess indispensable professional employable skills and not just mere master-minds of futile theoretical knowledge.

To cater to the various niches of learners, the teaching- learning process must be a customized one. Some kids absorb faster, while some may be relatively slower. Some may be visual learners some may be auditory and some may be kinesthetic. So what is good and apt for one kid may not be necessarily so for another. Through continuous research and study, we at IIS are trying to work out possible solutions to customize learning in its true sense. Thus a solid curriculum is framed at the primary level realizing the fact that one size doesn’t fit all.

The curricula thus enable learners to respond to the impact of globalization and the demands of society; connecting education with life-skills; generating sensitiveness towards environment. Themain success of the curricula would be in achieving student learning outcomeson par with global standards.

Students of the present day have access to more current knowledge through media, ICT, books and journals, etc. With the plethora of information sources do they by any chance get an opportunity to put their skills into practice remains an unanswered question? Research study points out that a large proportion of the student community…the so called professional graduates lack employable skills.

The scope of learning at IIS thus takes into account the learner’s profile, their choice and potential in relation with the skills required to face the competitive employable world.

Upgrading the skills of the existing faculty by collaborating teaching, training and research to confront the challenges of 21 st century learners is given due prominence to take mediocrity out of the school culture.

Our smart and caring faculty team coupled with best in class technological infrastructure endeavor to redefine the educational atmosphere at IIS raising the benchmark standards year after year.

With policies, procedures, proactive solutions and staff development plans in place, every stake holder at IIS are committed in creating and maintaining a safe and sound school culture.

Albert Einstein says, “Education is what remains after one has forgotten what one has learned in school”.

We at IIS say,” Education is what remains with one for a life-time if one has learned in school the skills of nurturing and retaining it”.

Regards,

K.VISWANATH KAMATH
